About our Institution

A hundred and forty nine years in the service of the nation through education is no mean achievement. Stanes Higher Secondary School was founded by a visionary Sir Robert Stanes. He arrived in India in 1858 to help his brothers William and Thomas in their coffee and tea plantations. He was enamoured with the Nilgiri Hills. From the Niligirs he moved to Coimbatore to become a pioneer textile industrialist and an automobile business-mn.

In 1862, Robert Stanes, then a man of just twenty-one began a day school for the children of his employees. The beginning was very humble-a very small house near Kumaran market with two teachers and four students.
